Welcome to Underworld Tales, formerly known as Underworld Magazine, a dark online literary magazine with horror fiction, true ghost stories, dark poetry, and other strange stuff to delight and entertain the ghoulish reader. Here you'll find everything from vampires to ghosts with a little bit of mystery and science fiction mixed in. Just sit back, take a deep breath, and relax. You'll need to get a grip on yourself before you delve into our terrifying tombs.

Mystic Echoes

We're happy to announce that we have a new and exciting
exclusive column by psychic and medium, Marie Saint Claire. Travel along with Ms. Claire as she explores the great unsolved mysteries of the world and write to her with your own questions.  In this issue she solves the mystery of the Black Dahlia's murder. At last, you can find out who did it, and the from Black Dahlia herself! Plus read her investigation into the  JonBenét Ramsey case, and the  haunted happenings on board the R.M.S. Queen Mary.  And much more is on the way!

Announcements: July 2004
I'm proud to announce that
Barbara Garrett has rejoined the staff as "Editor."  She would have been with us sooner, but it took us a while to gather all the parts and stitch them back together.  Anyway, Yeah! Way to go Barbara!  Let's give her a big hand, a leg bone or something. Other than myself, my dog Rose, and my cat Ice T, that puts the "living" human staff count at a whooping two.  We can only hope that we few remaining adventurers will survive our foray into the Underworld.

We're also pleased to announce that we've added 23 classic horror stories, including a full-length novella by Henry James, to the site that were featured in the original magazine (yes, some backup copies were finally unearthed.) So please be sure to check them out! It nearly cost us an arm and a leg to bring them to you, but luckily, we fought off the wolves.

We've also added 24 short articles in a wide range of subjects from the supernatural to the odd and unusual--more artifacts from the original magazine. We've dusted off the tombs and brought them back to life, and treasure them like we would an ancestor's tooth. So please check out the new Underworld Tales Article section! And while you do, don't forget your cross and your garlic.  We also suggest that you make sure your last will and testament is up to date!

I've also included two other popular pages from the original magazine, our Death Quotes and Epitaphs page.  So read them and weep!

Time is ever short in the living years, and we try to add new content to the site weekly, but we also hope to bring you a especially horrific Autumn edition next month, featuring new fiction, new poetry, new ghost stories, Halloween horror, and much more. We would tell you more, but decided that it would be best if you waited to see what we'll be serving up.  Actually, we're afraid that we might scare you away if we tell you our plans now.  So keep dropping by, and don't forget our upcoming autumn celebration or else.  And if you'd like to make a contribution to an upcoming issue, click here!  We don't bite!  Well, sometimes we do, but not too hard!

Night New!
He's here, moaning in the night.
Still There New!
And he's still here!
The Raven

One of Poe's greatest pieces!
When I'm Dead
A humorous poem about death!
Death of the Grim Reaper
Can the grim reaper die? Find out!
Nevermore
Just what will come nevermore? Could it be life?
Dark Spirit of the Desart Rude
Would you dare to wake this spirit? Shelley did!
Dear Jessica
A poem that's so dark it's humorous!

Faded Roses and Cthulhu
by Bobette Bryan
Is this woman going mad or is a strange creature from beyond really visiting her? You decide with this strange dark sci-fi story.(10,000)

Alone
by Bobette Bryan
Alone is about a poor soul who's trapped in a graveyard. Whatever to do? There's nothing around but blacked trees and busted tombstones. There's nobody to help him. The only shelter appears to be some old abandoned house in the cemetery. (6,000)

Harrington Manor
by Barbara Garrett
This masterpiece is set in an old mansion. The main character is the lady's maid for a foul old woman, but she's dedicated to duty nevertheless. It may have a bit of a surprise ending. But don't read it if you can't handle sheer terror! But for that matter, if you can't handle nightmares, go away, Underworld is much too intense for you! (2,700)

The Last Trip of the Titanic
by Bobette Bryan
There's something strange going on aboard the Titanic and it seems like engineer, Andrews is the only one who's aware of it. If only he could get the others to listen this time!
